Fitness Marketing

When developing a program for fitness marketing online, it’s important to manage your online reputation. You may not think of your online reputation in this way, but reputation is a marketing tool. As people become more and more reliant on the internet for information, potential customers will often first do online research about you and your business before spending any money for services or products.

Fitness Marketing…You Are What You …

Have you ever heard the expression, “You are what you eat”? When it comes to online fitness business marketing, you are what you post, blog, or display. People of all ages are getting more internet savvy everyday and are doing searches to uncover the truth about people, places and things.

When you operate an online fitness business, you must keep in mind that your reputation is a tangible asset that influences people. It’s only one component of branding, but it’s one of the most important components. Unfortunately some people forget that what is posted online floats in cyberspace forever.

Don’t Be Thoughtless

The ease with which comments can be posted online can lead to thoughtless entries in blogs, on social networking sites, on Twitter or in forums or chat rooms. A thoughtless comment is not necessarily a rude one which is obviously in poor taste. Thoughtless includes comments that:
  • Contain half-truths or outright lies
  • Reflect poor judgment
  • Are gossipy sounding
  • Are written with poor grammar and contain spelling errors
  • Criticize other professionals in the fitness industry
  • Are indiscrete
Your online reputation is made up of your statements, comments made by others, pictures, videos, audio recordings and of course your website.

You don’t have to spend a fortune on your website to keep it professional. But you do need to be very careful about the quality of your online postings no matter what media is chosen.

For example, you can post a video that explains a new exercise trend and even film yourself demonstrating some of the exercises. But if the video can be described as boring, that is how the viewer will think of your fitness services – as boring! The marketing tool can actually drive customers away!

Don’t Have an Online Identity Crisis!

Fitness marketing online requires attention to the details. It is important to use the many online tools that can personalize you on the internet. Personal trainers and fitness centers offer personal services so the more human you can make your online presence, the more effective your marketing efforts will be.

Another way to look at online fitness marketing is that you create an identity that will follow you around…forever. Whatever you post as information about your business, yourself, your customers, your services, or your products should create a single professional reputable image. The internet is not a good place to have an identity crisis!

The internet can be a powerful marketing tool, but focusing too much on the technical tools without paying close attention to the content can lead to reputation problems.

Just remember at all times that you are what you post!
