Why You Should Develop a Niche for Fitness Marketing
What is a “niche market” and how does it apply to fitness marketing? Should I really be concerned with who my clients are as long as I have clients? If you have not asked yourself these questions you may want to - the answers can determine the success of your business.
What’s Your Niche?
A niche can be defined as a group of people who have things in common. These people might share common interests or goals. A niche can be white collar business men who enjoy participating in sports activities on the weekend. It could be people who are recovering from physical injuries. Your niche market for your fitness marketing campaign is only limited by your imagination.
Fitness Marketing Your Niche
Once you have developed several ideas for your niche, or what you want to focus on, you can develop your fitness marketing campaign around your niche. For example, if your niche is senior citizens you can target your fitness marketing campaign toward senior citizens in your community.
By focusing on your niche market you will accomplish two important things:
- Increase client roll
- Decrease marketing costs
Consider your last mass marketing campaign. You may have covered a large area and placed your name into the hands of thousands of people but did you have the results you hoped for? I would hazard to say no. Many of the people who saw your advertising may have needed your services but did they want them?
When you market to your niche your advertising is targeted to a certain section of the population of your community. For the senior citizen niche the following ideas would target the elderly population in your community:
- Advertising in senior citizen magazines and other local print media
- Advertising in businesses frequented by senior citizens
- Advertising with health professionals frequented by senior citizens
- Advertising on TV and radio during the times senior citizens are likely to be tuned in, (for example: early mornings and early evenings)
- Use senior citizen models in your print and other visual media
If a senior citizen knows she needs to exercise and receives two flyers in the mail – one with a young women in exercise gear and one with a group of senior ladies happily exercising – which club is she going to join?
Confused?
If the niche concept of fitness marketing is new to you consider hiring a fitness marketing professional. A professional can help you determine which niche you are best suited for and how to market yourself to that niche.
Keep in mind that once you have developed your niche and a fitness marketing campaign targeted to your niche you will be changing the course of your business. You will immediately stop wasting money on advertising that is going nowhere, except maybe the trash. You will see a huge influx of clients who pay and stay.
