The Secret Is Working “ON” Your Business,
NOT Working “IN” Your Business

By Eric Ruth

It’s a catch-22, I know.

It’s a riddle, an enigma, a puzzle.

How can you afford to work “on” your business, when you’re so darn busy working “in” your business just to survive?

Trouble is, there’s no good answer.  More hours in the day would be great, eh?

Not needing sleep would help.

Winning the lottery couldn’t hurt.

Unfortunately, none of those things are going to happen.

Bottom line: you’ve got to figure it out for yourself.  You’ve got to fiddle with your schedule, your life, your priorities, your commitments, everything…

…until you have CREATED 2-3 hours every day that you can devote solely and specifically to working “ON” your business.

What does that mean?

It means strategizing, planning and creating marketing and management SYSTEMS for your business.

One of my new Members, Bill H., who took advantage of the Damn Good Deal special offer is really impressing me with his rapid implementation.

He’s only had my stuff for about two weeks and he’s already emailed me requesting critiques of two special reports he’s written on Golf Fitness and has already set up three strategic alliances.

His reports are excellent.  Loaded with valuable information, yet concise, punchy and full of his personality.  They have a little “edge” to them – he is nudging the reader to see that fitness and sport-specific strength training will make a much bigger difference in his/her golf scores than buying another super-duper titanium club ever will.

Now, I don’t know Bill too well.  Maybe he’s independently wealthy and has lots of time on his hands to work “on” his business, rather than “in” it.

But I don’t think so.

I think he’s just like you.  A guy who loves what he does, has an ongoing business that is paying the bills and is committed to growing his business and making more money.

What makes Bill special is that he’s DOING SOMETHING.

What will make him successful is if he can SUSTAIN his motivation and inspiration.

It’s exciting in the beginning.  You get my stuff.  You read the manual and listen to the tapes and your eyes get big as oranges because you now SEE the possibilities.

My fitness marketing systems make so much sense and have proven so effective over the years that it’s OBVIOUS they will work for you.

But will you PUT THEM TO WORK FOR YOU?

That’s the million dollar question.

Bill has taken the first big step.  He’s working with the material, strategizing, planning, creating and implementing.

And based on what I’ve seen of his stuff, I’d bet he will see good results… FAST.

But things won’t just automatically snowball from there.  Bill won’t get rich overnight.  Everything won’t get easier.

In fact, it will get harder before it gets easier.

Because the more you do, the more you have to do.

That’s why you’ve got to SYSTEMIZE things as quickly as you possibly can.

(Check out the e-myth by Michael Gerber). It is so incredibly important that you read, absorb and USE that information.

And that’s what I mean when I talk about working “on” your business instead of working “in” your business.

The only way to systemize is to plan.

If you jump from one thing to the next without a strategic plan, you will soon be overwhelmed, frustrated and irritated.

Planning is so critically important because it enables you to see the big picture.

Planning puts you IN CONTROL.

Without a good sense of where you are going with your business, you are more or less at the mercy of chance, odds and probabilities… as opposed to plans, purpose and good judgment.

Without planning, your business will run you, instead of you running your business.

There is an entire section in my manual that guides you, step-by-step, through the business planning stage.

Again, you need to read, absorb and most of all USE that guide.

I know, I know – you just want to get going and GET MORE NEW BUSINESS NOW!

And you should.  See, the SECRET is working on everything simultaneously.  You can be implementing the marketing strategies I’ve provided for you, systemizing the processes, policies and procedures and creating your marketing plan…

…ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

Is it hard work?  That depends on what you call hard work.  I was helping a friend of mine move his daughter into her first apartment this past weekend.  I had to assemble her dining room table.  There was a table top and four legs.  The legs had to be screwed into the table top.  The four inch screws were designed for an allen wrench, but he didn’t have an allen wrench bit for his drill.  So I had to use the “non-automated” allen wrench to screw these scews in by hand.  It took me almost half an hour of monotonous, painful screwing (that sounds weird) to get this thing assembled.  All I could think about was how grateful I am that I’m not a laborer or work on an assembly line somewhere.  Now THAT’S hard work!

Keep things in perspective.  Be grateful for what you have.  Count your blessings.  Do the “hard” work of THINKING, PLANNING, SYSTEMIZING AND IMPLEMENTING.

I promise you that it will pay HUGE dividends for you down the road, and you will look back on it as the most important INVESTMENT of your time and effort.

If you want to get to the top, you’ve got to climb the hill.  The fastest route up the hill is working “on” your business as much as you possibly can!

SPECIAL NOTICE FOR THOSE “ON THE FENCE”

I get a lot of questions from people who are interested in on of the many NPE Fitness Marketing Products we have available – most of them ask me the same thing: will this stuff help them.

My first question to them is what is your alternative?  Obviously, if you’re going to take your business beyond where it is today, you’ve got to change something.  If you knew what to do, I assume you would have done it by now.  The thing that holds most fitness professionals back is that they don’t have sufficient background in marketing and they try to wing it.  You can do that if you want, but it’s a great way to waste large amounts of money and time.

The next questions I have for people who wonder if my stuff will work for them is this: Do you have all the qualified leads you can handle?  Are you converting prospects to clients at the highest possible rate?  Do you have a “back-end” money-machine in place to maximize profits?  Do you have strategic alliance referral networks driving business your way?

If you answered “yes” to these questions, then you don’t need my stuff.  Otherwise, you should invest in my program – if you have an ongoing business, you will be able to get a return on your investment in 60-90 days.  I’ll bet that Bill H. will.

Making money is all about allocating resources.  Finding places where a small input has the potential for a big output is the essence of what business is all about.

Education is one of those areas where a small investment can pay massive dividends.

Let’s be honest.  Do you think life is going to be easier or harder in the coming years for people who expect the “status quo” to take care of them?  What is your plan to deal with the future?

Being informed about the realities of business, especially marketing, is the only REAL financial insurance I know of.  Too many people are waiting passively to see what might “turn up” for them.  In my experience, progress – results – come from definite action informed by real knowledge.
